The chairman and chief executive of Acer, one of the world’s biggest sellers of consumer tech devices, has expressed some serious concerns about plans for the Microsoft Surface tablet.

Acer has announced the launch of a special upgrade offer involving many of its most popular laptop computer models including the likes of the Aspire S3, S5, M3 and M5.

Acer, the Taiwanese computer manufacturer, has introduced a new range of what it describes as ‘ultrabooks’, meaning of course thin, slim and lightweight laptop devices.

Acer has unveiled a new addition to its range of netbook offerings in the UK in the shape of the Aspire One 756, which, as you might expect from a netbook, has been designed with portability firmly in mind.

HP sold more PCs across Western Europe than any of its rivals, including nearest challengers Acer and Asus, to claim a 22.9 percent share of the fiercely contested market in the first quarter of 2012.

The much-hyped BlackBerry Playbook tablet PC could be making its way to stores in America in April and be sold at the relatively low price of US$499.

Makers of the device Research In Motion (RIM) have been keeping their release dates and price-tags pretty much to themselves so far but a leak picked up by the CrackBerry website appears to suggest that Home Depot will be selling the tablet in a matter of weeks.

Acer has revealed details of its up-coming 3D monitor, the catchily-titled GN245HQ, and is to make it available in the UK for an initial price of £419.99.

Supporting Nvidia’s HDMI 3D technology, the display is designed to offer “enhanced home entertainment” and Acer is describing it as the “first 3D monitor in the world”.

A range of media players can be linked-up to the device, including your set-top box or blu-ray player, as well as your desktop computer via a DVI-DL.
