You Don’t Need Geeky Glasses to Watch 3D Anymore

3d technology You Dont Need Geeky Glasses to Watch 3D Anymore at techunicorn.co.uk

People have to wear those ugly, geeky and disgusting Glasses to enjoy watching 3D videos. I have always hated those glasses and I am sure you have too. But worry no more, European researchers are developing a technology that enables 3DTV which does not require wearing glasses.

Soon you will be able to enjoy full 3D effects in Videos just using your naked eye. The first applications of the new technology are likely to be the fields of industry and science but there is a lot of potential in it and it will surely revolutionise the way we watch movies or play video games. With this new technology, there is no need no need for the special glasses in cinemas or having to adjust your head into specific positions to get the 3D effect, as with a holographic image. Two EU-funded projects, firstly HOLOVISION and then its successor OSIRIS have been able to perform this breakthrough. Ákos Demeter of Holografika, a partner in both projects, explains that in the first one the primary aim was to develop technologies capable of producing a very high-resolution 3D image. He said, “We basically organised projection engines in a special way and used holographic imaging film for the display screen. The combination of these, with the projection engines being driven by a cluster of nine high-end PCs, and new sophisticated software, allowed us to achieve our aims.”

A 100Mpixel Prototype, running at 25 frames a second in six colours, was produced and its resolution was increased three fold to virtually 300Mpixel by using greyscales instead of colours. This prototype is yet to be produced commercially but it was good enough for the HOLOVISION and OSIRIS projects to get them Best Exhibit Award silver prize at the ICT 2008 exhibition in Lyon.

Atom N270 / N280-Based Netbooks Not Getting Windows 7

windows xp netbook Atom N270 / N280 Based Netbooks Not Getting Windows 7 at techunicorn.co.uk

While most of the netbook vendors are getting their netbooks ready for the Windows 7 operating system, Atom N270 / N280-Based Netbooks will be stuck at Windows XP. The reason behind this is the price difference between windows Xp and Windows 7. Netbook vendors just have to pay $25 for a single license of netbook version of Windows XP whileas the cost of Windows 7 is going to be much higher (Between $45-$55 for Netbook version). This step has been taken to keep the netbooks more affordable and targeted at people with lower budgets. According to the industry sources, “The current price of Windows XP OEM version is only around US$25-30, but the latest quotes from Microsoft for the netbook version of Windows 7 is around US$45-55 and therefore first-tier vendors are unable to transfer the cost to the netbooks’ sales price due to the fierce competition”.

Most netbook vendors are currently focusing on only adopting Windows 7 in their next generation Atom N450-based netbooks. However, some vendors are considering  upgrade offers for their N280-based products.

In addition to this, Intel plans to announce the single-core Atom D410 and dual-core Atom D510 for nettops in October 2009 replacing the current Atom 230 and 330. Atom 230 and 330 will be phased out in the first quarter of 2010.
