The Daily launched earlier this month as an iPad only app, although owner Rupert Murdoch did admit that he expected to expand the venture to include other tablet devices in the near future.

It appears that Murdoch has taken the decision to waive this exclusivity sooner rather than later, amid rumours that the enormous cost of launching the app would make device-monogamy impossible.

Invites circulated by the company feature an image of a March 2nd calendar page with one corner peeling. Behind the page is what appears to be an iPad 2.

The words “Come see what 2011 will be the year of” are emblazoned across the invite, as Apple posture ahead of what is a critical release for the company.

How much it might cost consumers to get their hands on a Xoom is yet to be revealed but Motorola has been keen to talk up the attributes of its Honeycomb slate at the on-going Mobile World Congress in Spain.

An American release is expected in a few months time and Europe shouldn’t be all that far behind, with the company aiming to capture what it can of the non-iPad tablet market on both sides of the Atlantic.

The launch of a Honeycomb-operated competitor for the iPad had been strongly rumoured for this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona but Samsung has now officially unveiled its newest tablet offering.

Powered by Tegra 2 dual-core processors, the up-dated Tab will be the first from Samsung to take on the iPad in the same size category and the Korean electronics giant is billing its release as an “entertainment powerhouse”.
